How to Add and Sync an AirTag to Your iPhone
When you take an AirTag out of the package, the first thing you should do is add it to your iPhone and pair them. Step 1: Unlock your iPhone and enable connections like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Once done, go back to the home screen. Step 2: Meanwhile, remove the battery tab (the thin transparent sheet) from your AirTag. This step will complete the battery circuit and power the tracker. Step 3: Hold it near your iPhone, and you will see the Connect card on your phone. Once done, you can name the tracker. For now, Apple lets you choose from Backpack, Bike, Camera, etc. Step 4: Complete the rest of the registration process to add the tracker to your Apple AirTag account. Once done, open the Find My app, and the AirTag will be displayed under the Items tab. Simple, see.
Play a Sound and Find it
To explore all the things you can do with this Apple tracker, tap on the tracker name as shown below. A tap on the Play Sound will enable a high-pitched sound, whereas a tap on Find will show you where your AirTag is. If you want to test its full strength, you can keep it in a faraway corner of your house, and then tap on Find to well, find the tracker via your phone. If you are sure that the tracker is nearby, you can also ask Siri to locate it for you. You can simply say, “Hey Siri, locate my tracker”. If it’s nearby, it will locate it and ping it. Cool, right?
Change AirTag’s Name
The good thing about the Apple AirTag is that you can assign different names to it. If you want to change its name, that’s possible without a hassle. To make the name more fun, you can add an emoji too. Here’s how you can do that. Step 1: To change the name of your Apple AirTag, go to Items on the Find My app and tap on the tracker’s name. Step 2: Scroll down on the card until you see the Rename Item option. Tap on it and choose a new name. If you are not happy with the presets, you can also add a custom name. For this, scroll down on the name list, and tap on Custom. Here’s where it gets interesting. Instead of a casual name, you can simply add an emoji. Cool, we’d say.
How to Turn Off Item Safety Alerts
You may already know that the AirTag has anti-stalking measures built into it. In the unfortunate event that your iPhone detects an unknown tracker moving along with you, it will alert you. However, if you share the tracker with your friends and family, it makes sense to turn off this feature to avoid unnecessary alerts and notifications. Step 1: Head over to the Me section on the Find My app, and toggle the switch for Item Safety Alerts. Do note that even if the Safety Alerts are off, you’ll still be able to see the location of the tracker. It’s just that you will not receive the alerts. The best scenario is to unpair it with the current iPhone and link it with the new owner’s phone if you are lending it for an extended period.
What If You Lose Your AirTag
If you have lost your AirTag, you can place it in Lost Mode. Once the Lost Mode is activated, it’ll notify you if it’s within your phone’s range. Step 1: To enable the Lost mode, go to the tracker settings (via Items) and tap on Lost > Enable. At this point, you will be prompted to update your contact details so that the finder can contact you. Step 2: Once found, you can safely disable the Lost mode.
What If You Find a Lost AirTag
As we mentioned earlier, AirTags have built-in anti-stalking measures. One of the best things is that the tracker will emit a sound if it doesn’t detect its owner for an extended period of time. If you happen to find someone else’s AirTag while on your evening walks (or hikes up in the mountain), it’s simple to find the owner’s information. Step 1: If the owner has already put in the Lost Mode, you can tap and hold your smartphone against the white side of the tracker. You will see a notification pop-up on your phone (both Android and iPhone). Step 2: Tap to open the notification, and you’ll see the owner’s information on it. Do keep in mind that NFC should be enabled.
How to Reset an AirTag and Pair It Again With Your Other iPhone
The Apple Airtag can also be paired with other iPhones. The re-pairing process is simple and quick and the work gets done in a few minutes. Although we would have preferred the reset mechanism to be a bit different. Step 1: Rotate the back of your tracker until the metal back comes off. Now, take out the battery. Step 2: Replace the battery, and then press down on the battery until you hear a slight beep. Do note that the sound emitted is not loud and you may want to keep the tracker closer to your ears. Step 3: Repeat the above process four more times. The fifth sound emitted is slightly different from the previous to indicate that the tracker is in pairing mode. Step 4: Meanwhile, unlink the AirTag from the older phone to which it was paired. Step 5: On your new iPhone, enable all the necessary connections such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Now, hold the AirTag near your phone (your phone should be unlocked), and the connect card will be visible on your phone’s screen. And then, you can start using the AirTag again.
